Check First

Please read this checklist before you attend a new activity

  1. Check it's right for you

It's worth checking before you go:

    • Are you the right age?
    • Is the activity for people who live in your area?
    • Do you need to contact the activity provider before attending?
  2. Check with your parents or guardian

    • Make sure they are ok with the activity
    • Let them know what time the activity finishes and how you will get home
  3. Check that all the people who run the activity have a certificate

All people who organise activities for young people must have a 'CRB certificate'. This tells you that they don't have a criminal record of child abuse.

  4. Check for signs of bullying or child abuse

Talk to someone you trust if you people who run the activity show unusual behaviour such as:

    • Do not allow your parents or guardians to stay during the activity
    • Show favouritism to you or other young people
    • Invite you or other young people to spend time with them alone
    • Encourage racist, sexist or homophobic behaviour
    • Encourage inappropriate physical contact
    • Take your photograph without your permission

If you feel there is signs of bullying or abuse speak to someone you trust, contact childline 0800 1111 or go to www.there4me.com
